To: Captain McLean, Officers and men of the USS New Hampshire
To You, your, officers and men, on
behalf of all U. S. Troops on board, we desire to express these greetings as our
homeward bound journey draws to an close. We feel that the hardships and
privations of the past have in great measure been lessened by this most pleasant
homecoming on board the NEW HAMPSHIRE, by the cheerful co-operation of its men
towards our comfort and your own friendly endeavor towards our welfare. Not only
will this our last "march" remain' to us a most pleasant memory and privilege,
but we feel that the already great mutual understanding and admirati
on
for our country's fighting men of the sea has been increased.
As we soon all depart our several ways in the pursuits of peace, we desire to thank you. Your officers and men, of the NEW HAMPSHIRE for this most joyous home-coming; and we leave behind this token of our great esteem and appreciation. We bid you farewell; and the future success and accomplishments of you, your officers and men will ever remain the cherished wish of us all.
