Cpl. Gene Colby
Gene Colby was born Sept. 22 1927 to Lawrence and
Anna Colby. He was the youngest child in the family consisting of two older
brothers and 2 older sisters. He graduated from Alpena , Michigan High
school in 1946 and avoided the draft by enlisting in the Army in November of
of 1948He received his basic
training with 101st Airborne Division at Camp Breckenridge, KY
and attended Wheeled Vehicle school Ft
Eustis, VA. In April of 1949, he was assigned to
Battery A
15Th AAA
AW Special Battalion in Fort Bliss Texas.
In November 1949 he was released to the reserves and was recalled in October of the next year. While in Korea, he served with 765 T.R.S.B. and served from December 1950 to October 1951. He returned home and worked in the automotive parts and service field from 1952 to 1969 . In 1969, he went to work for the City of Alpena, Michigan as a Wastewater Treatment Plant operator and retired in 1987. More of Gene's photos can be fond here
