Don Jones

1In 1953 I was working as a locomotive electrician for the UPRR in Cheyenne, WY. In October , the draft board ordered physical for induction for service and said that would happen within 6 months time. Then during the first week in November ordered to report for induction on December 5th.I was sent to Ft. Ord, CA for basic training with Fox Co. in the 63rd Infantry.

Finally it was decided that I would be sent to Ft. Eustis, VA to continue with the electrician trade but the Army decided otherwise, so I was sent instead to "T" school to become a Railroad movements specialist. The only Railroad movements at that time were in the ROK.

So I  was sent to Ft. Lewis, WA to ship out. In July,  a short four days later  I was a replacement break in as OS man at Pusanjin on the KNR.

I later worked as dispatcher (train) until 724s' were phase out. We got many calls for motor pool dispatchers finally I was sent to finish my time at Camp Drake, Japan with the 92nd AFA. I serve 23mos in active service and in all that time only received 3days leave.
